GARDEN FLOWERS AND ORANGES

I had a go at making the citrus brooch that is featured in Quilting Arts. I have left it as a sample piece. I noticed in the garden a viola that is in bloom, the colours are so bright and all on one tiny flower. I might use the technique I have just learnt and have a go with the flowers. I think it will work well.

I also have a bag that needs finishing - just the handle to attach. But distracted at the moment with other household things that need doing, it is amazing how the days slip past.

Screen Printing, flowers and showers

Had a fun afternoon - whilst it was pouring with rain outside, working with bright yellow paint.

This is now pickling and will wait until after the weekend to open the bag and give it a wash.

I think the flower effect, which was entirely by accident gives a sort of Hockney look. I love his daisy prints.

Then getting carried away and having paint left over I went and added more colour to the fabric that I had left over from previous printing.

Have a good weekend and more next week.

snap purses, prototype

This is a zip bag that I finished yesterday, in real life the colours are brigher. There is a book I found whilst cleaning about digital photography. I will have a look and see what tips and hints there are.

I ordered some snap fasteners yesterday and they arrived by post today. Amazing service, so I have been having a go at making a purse/ ipod holder. There are changes I will make to the next one, reduce the padding on the main fabric and maybe not to use interfacing on the lining.
If I make the bag slightly longer it will be big enough to put a camera in. I also thought it would be useful to have a hanging loop on the side.
Tomorrow I have the house to myself so will finish the printing that I prepared last week. Having a go at lovely yellow!

sewing

Not much sewing done today apart from some cards, busy sorting out the fish pond. This is a print that I did the other day - using a gocco screen. Undecided at the moment what to do with it next.

Work in Progress

I have had a sort of tidy up day and found a box that I had made. I liked the fabric but not the box, so taking the box apart I reinvented the fabric. Now I need to leave it to see where the creative muse takes me!

ampersands

This was the motif that I thought would look interesting on the screen printed fabric. I stuck with one size but think it could be developed to include different sizes and done in different fonts.

Had a fun time playing.

Hand printed fabric

Posted by PicasaThis is fabric I screen printed last week and is part of the batch of the fabric that I used to make the pencil cases/ make up bags. I am going to over print with a motif, that idea came to me on waking up this morning. It was my intention to get that done today but other things happened - so it is my job for tomorrow.
To explain the personal photo, not something I normally wear!! But worn as respect when visiting a family temple in Bali. It brings back memories of hot humid days and of a country where peoples work ethic is admirable.
I better explain where the cushion fits in. I have recently returned from living in Australia, my husband had a job there.
I needed to find something to do. Although teacher trained unless I wanted to do supply, they were few and far between. I applied for a job as a visual arts technician, along with 350 other people, so no joy.
Melbourne, where we were living has a lot of markets, one of the best things about living there and something I miss. So my thoughts were to start out small, make some cushions and sell them at the markets. Unfortunately our plans changed and we decided to return to England. So the cushions are on a slow boat making their way to the UK.
I really like working with floral motifs - so decided on the name of Red Daisy - red and variations being my favourite colour. I didn't realise that if you did an internet search it would come up with the Daisy from Dukes of Hazzard!!

I was going to print up some more fabric today, but time seems to have disappeared. I have had some zips delivered that I ordered so now will get on and put them in another pencil case/ make up bags. I am trialing a new pattern, finding a way to put zips in that look professional.

new venture

I am currently in the beginning stages of setting up my blog page, so please bear with me whilst I get to grips with all the bits and pieces that are involved.
Whilst that is happening I will put some pictures up of work that I am currently doing. Making pencil cases, make up bags from fabric that I have printed.
